NSW should see a ‘drop off’ in severe COVID cases and deaths by the end of August

UNSW Infectious Disease Social Scientist Holly Seale says New South Wales should see a “drop off” in severe COVID cases and death by the end of August if the target vaccination coverage is reached.

“That then takes the pressure off our hospitals, and that’s what we need as a first step,” she told Sky News Australia.

“Beyond that of course we’re not suggesting that it’s going to mean that other public health measures need to be stopped straight away, it won’t be.

“We will just need to keep looking to what has happened in the UK and the US and other countries with higher vaccine populations to see what would be our step down strategy.”
