Thursday AM Tropical Update: Invest 99L may become depression today

Invest 99L has shown signs that it is coming together and a tropical depression will form very soon. The Hurricane Hunters are flying into the system Thursday afternoon and will let us know if we have a depression or storm. This will also let us know where the center is.

The system will move NW today taking aim at the Yucatan Channel or perhaps as far east as the western tip of Cuba. The track depends on where the center forms and so far the most likely scenario is the center forms on the northern side of the disturbance and moves closer to Cuba. A track closer to Cuba means the system would get further east in the Gulf of Mexico, therefore, increasing the chances Louisiana and Mississippi see impacts. There is still plenty of uncertainly with the track and if the center forms further south in the Caribbean then a track to Texas seems more likely.
