'No intention to run for federal politics': Barilaro resigns to seek new career

Outgoing NSW Deputy Premier John Barilaro has announced he is leaving politics altogether to look for a new career.

It comes as Mr Barilaro issued a statement announcing his resignation as Deputy Premier of NSW on Monday.

At a media conference on the same day, Mr Barilaro made very clear he has no desire for a tilt at federal politics.

"I have no intention and no will that I will be running for Eden-Monaro or for federal politics," Mr Barilaro said.

"I am leaving politics and I will look to a new career.

"I turn 50 in November, maybe a bit of a midlife crisis, but I am definitely thinking about what's next."

Mr Barilaro's sudden resignation follows those of former Transport Minister Andrew Constance and former Premier Gladys Berejiklian.

Three New South Wales seats will now go to a by-election as a result.
