Shenzhou-13 astronauts have been provided with nutritious dietary foods with customized living facilities to ensure their suitable and comfortable six-month stay in space, thanks to thoughtful and resourceful designs and manufacturing by the supportive staff serving the manned spaceflight mission.
To help astronauts work and live in the space better for the next six months, engineers for the Shenzhou-13 have installed and equipped many thought-provoking designs and facilities at the Shenzhou-13 spaceship.
Foods are fundamental essentials. Living in space for half a year with only long shelf-life food could be tedious and dull. Therefore, various fresh food with short shelf-life, such as vegetables and fruits, were sent concurrently to the space for the astronauts.
"We primarily provided some short shelf-life food for astronauts, like vegetables and fruits. Since they will stay in orbit for quite a long time, their diet with long shelf-life food need to be spiced up a little bit. Therefore, we used the Shenzhou spaceship to take some relatively fresh food for them. Besides, some personal belongings of astronauts were also onboard," said Jia Shijin, chief designer of manned spacecraft system under China Academy of Space Technology.
The Shenzhou-13 manned spaceflight mission is commanded by the experienced Zhai Zhigang, with popular female astronaut Wang Yaping and Ye Guangfu, who is set to make his maiden spaceflight, forming the three-man crew.
Wang, who participated in the Shenzhou-10 mission in 2013, has become the first Chinese female astronaut to visit China's space station and is set to carry out extravehicular activities during her latest stint in space.
As a female astronaut is also taking on the mission, relevant supporting facilities for Wang are also equipped.
"Because there is a female astronaut participate in this mission, we also have some supporting devices for daily uses specially designed, which has taken the need of female astronauts into consideration. They were also sent to the space station by spacecraft, in order to meet the needs of female astronauts in orbit," said Jia.
Shenzhou-13 crewed spaceship, atop a Long March-2F carrier rocket, was launched from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center at 12:23 a.m (Beijing Time) on early Saturday morning.
It completed orbital status setting after entering the orbit and conducted a fast automated rendezvous and docking with the core module Tianhe at 6:56 a.m. (Beijing Time), forming a complex together with the cargo crafts Tianzhou-2 and Tianzhou-3.
Later, the crew entered the core module and opened the hatch of the Tianzhou-3 cargo craft to transfer the cargo.

神舟十三号载人航天任务由经验丰富的翟志刚指挥，人气女航天员王亚平和即将进行处女航的叶光富组成三人组。
2013年参加神舟十号任务的王亚平成为第一位访问中国空间站的中国女宇航员，并将在她最新一次太空任务期间进行出舱活动。
由于女航天员也在承担任务，王的相关配套设施也配备齐全。
“因为有女航天员参与了这次任务，所以我们也专门设计了一些日常使用的配套设备，考虑到了女航天员的需要，她们也被航天器送到了空间站，以满足女宇航员在轨道上的需求，”贾说。
北京时间周六凌晨12点23分，神舟十三号载人飞船搭载长征二号F运载火箭，从酒泉卫星发射中心发射升空。
进入轨道后完成轨道状态设置，于北京时间6时56分与核心舱天河进行快速自动交会对接，与天舟二号、天舟三号货运飞船组成综合体。
随后，机组人员进入核心舱，打开天舟三号货船的舱口进行货物转运。
