The US & Taiwan are preparing a defence strategy of asymmetric warfare known as the porcupine strategy. The porcupine strategy focuses on evading the enemy’s strength and targeting its weakness. It also aims to make Taiwan a "pricklier victim" or essentially a more difficult target. Reports say that Taiwan’s porcupine strategy has three defence layers. There is a different tactic to deal with Chinese forces on the opposite coast, on Taiwan's beaches, at sea and in the air. Taiwan is counting on a strategy of guerilla warfare at sea, or what is called the "war of the flea".
