Disabilities can often be a difficult topic to talk about. Join IFLC to raise awareness about disabilities on December 3rd: International Day of This is to spread awareness and make life easier for those who have to overcome daily difficulties.
On the 3rd of December, we celebrate the International Day of Persons with Disabilities.
It’s about raising awareness of the rights and needs of persons with disabilities, looking at their well-being and the challenges they face.
A disability in one aspect of a person’s life is just that. It still leaves the person with a lot of abilities in other fields.
I might be differently able than you, and maybe it is hard for you to see past my obvious challenges. But try.
What can you do? Be aware. Take note of the human being living with the disability. Celebrate the wins, the achievements.
Make a connection. Invest some time and energy in a cause that can change another person’s life forever.
That colleague, the people you see in the park, the woman in the restaurant at the table next to you*. Try and see the world through their eyes.
Get involved in organizations that help people with disabilities. Organizations that know exactly what the needs are and how you can make a difference.
Just think of me as a person who is different from you, but still a human being with dreams and hopes, fears and ideas and plans. Allow me to make a contribution to society, to be an active member of a functioning society built on diversity.
Because in diversity lies the answer to many of the questions and challenges we are facing. Nobody has to be perfect. We can all be differently flawed.
