The IMD* has warned that a severe cyclone is likely to make landfall on December 4 between northern Andhra Pradesh and southern Odisha. The Cyclone season which starts in October has been relatively quiet in 2021.This is the first cyclone of the post-monsoon season and will be named Jawad. Currently there is a low pressure area over south Thailand and surrounding areas .This area is likely to emerge into the Andaman Sea during the next 12 hours approximately. This may turn into a depression and form a cyclone over the Bay of Bengal by December 3. The coast of Odisha may experience wind speeds of 40-50kph which will increase to 60-90kmph.
Fishermen have been advised to not venture out into the sea at least till December 3. Three depressions and three low pressure systems in November have brought heavy rainfall over the peninsula. Jawad may turn into a severe cyclone but it is difficult to predict whether it will cross the east coast or not.
